Inspired by Back to Back Screen Forums!

The Australian International Screen Forum 2021 in New York City was held from 23-27th March, offering a virtual program for delegates based in Australia.

Lucky me!

I am feeling incredibly inspired after being fortunate enough to digitally attend two very informative events this month!

Thanks to Screenworks Australia I was able to attend the Australian International Screen Forum in New York virtually, and took part in as many sessions as time zones, parenting, and scheduling allowed. I found two sessions to be particularly good which were the “Adapting Podcast to Screen” panel and the screen talk with New Zealand based director Roseanne Liang. I plan to produce a podcast in the near future and the session on adapting audio content to screen was really insightful and confirmed my plans for the future were not so foolish! Roseanne Liang had some words of advice which I found very encouraging, in particular about communication on set and immersing yourself in the story to deliver the best result.

The SCREENWORKS Regional to Global Screen Forum was held from the 25-27th March 2021 in Lennox Head, NSW and offered both a virtual and face-to-face event for delegates.

Overlapping the New York event, the Lennox Head event opened, and I was really happy to be able to catch almost the whole forum (given that it was held in Australia) - who would’ve thought pre-covid, that I’d be finishing training at the gym and heading to a forum in New York for an hour before attending an event interstate!! Had I not been scheduled to be elsewhere this week I would’ve loved to go in person to the live event to attend the many workshops and networking opportunities offered - a must do next year if it’s on again!

I have had the very best experiences through Screenworks and truly want to extend a special thank you to the whole team for all that you do!! As a regionally based practitioner I have found these events and resources to be exactly what I need for career development.

As for the forum content I don’t think there was a session that didn’t prove to be useful or insightful. Being able to hear from those heavyweights currently active in the industry was priceless and gave me a wider scope for consideration for my own projects; both in terms of funding and distribution but also creative team construction, what the regions can and do offer the world, and the future of the industry globally. I think I’ve said “inspiring” too many times now, however I definitely feel inspired to go out and tell those stories that can help shape a more positive world. I just want to create right now!!

Thank you again Screenworks for both opportunities!
